THEMES
Max Lehner combined David and Laokoon, both mythological figures and representatives of the old European cultures, with gas-stations and  classic US-automobiles, which represent in the artist's opinion one of the most impressing mythologies of the United States. David and Laokoon serve the representatives of America, although they obviously have their troubles. Both paintings are in files with the Guggenheim Museum, New York and the Smithsonian Institute, Washington D.C.  David's  Service  received the "ARTISTS FACING AMERICA AWARD 1992"

Laokoon's Trouble
Marilyns Gift is a kind of "hommage" to another American icon, Marilyn Monroe. The artist took a very popular picture of her and put a pillbox into her partner's hand. Never ending speculations about the actresse's mystic death find another possible solution within this scene. She was addicted to pills and to public, a combination which at last killed her. Marilyn's Gift received the "HOMMAGE TO MARILYN MONROE AWARD 1992"
